Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique, which decorates broken pottery by sprinkling gold powder and such. For a long time, Kintsugi is understood as a specialty in the world of tea ceremony and traditional art. In recent years, however, it has been spread to common everyday dishes. Many Kintsugi classes are now offered, and lots of foreigners express their interest in taking those classes.
Kintsugi has spread to all over Japan with the maturity of tea ceremony culture in Muromachi period. Because it finds beauty in broken pottery by displaying its repaired parts, it has been said that it is a unique Japanese art, which reflects the "no waste" mentality of Japanese people.
